As an artist, being in nature is a constant inspiration for me. Whether I am by the ocean, lakeside, or hiking in the woods with my pups, my camera and sketchbook are always with me. Back in the studio, that may present on canvas as a meditative scene designed to calm and put the world on pause; or, at other times a more lively abstract is the mood for the moment. A close-up macro photograph of a tide pool or river bed is very often the inspiration for my abstract pieces. I like to create my work by mixing traditional painting techniques with a contemporary twist to achieve the aesthetic that I desire. Not only is it important for me to lose myself in the healing process of laying down paint, I want the viewer to be transported away from the hustle and bustle of real life, if only for a moment.
